Rough Magic

“Rough Magic” are magical fireside adult storytelling events celebrating nature & the seasons, held at The Clearing in Lesnes Abbey Wood on various dates including Winter Solstice, Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice & Autumn Equinox.  It is hosted by Lesnes Abbey Wood’s storyteller in residence, Bernadette Russell. You can expect ancient stories retold in playful & thought-provoking ways, rituals to celebrate nature & the seasons, songs, poetry & all the wonder and enchantment of the wild wood. Free drinks & snacks are available at all the events, plus gifts & plenty of opportunities to join in should you wish to!

“Rough Magic” is a refuge, a place outside of the troubles of the world. Come & reconnect with each other & ourselves, the woods & all their residents, both human & more than human. It’s an invitation to come home to the wild, where we all belong.

Bernadette Russell is the author of six books for adults & children. She tells stories about hope & kindness, and the animals, plants & insects who are our friends & neighbours. Her work has featured on BBC 1 & 2, BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, the Guardian & Observer. Bernadette has told stories at the Royal Albert Hall, National Theatre, Southbank Centre & the British Film Institute amongst others.
