Interested in fossils and geology?  Lesnes Abbey Woods is a Site of Special Scientific Interest containing fossils from the Eocene Epoch (54.5 million years ago) including over 40 species of mammal, as well as reptiles, fish and early birds. All visitors must be mindful of the following:

  • you may remove no more than 2kgs of material from the site
  • please do not dig more than two feet deep
  • please refill any large or deep holes
  • for school or group booking please email at least one month prior to your visit

All groups, schools and professional digs should contact the council to book their visit. Please note there is a charge for this. Email for further information.
