Fossil Hunting
Lesnes Abbey has its very own fossil pit which dates back to the Eocene era and is 55 million years old.
We are able to offer fossil hunting for your group along with all the equipment needed. Our leaders will be able to assist with the identification of any fossils found.
The group will be led up into the woods to where the Lesnes fossil pit is. Once at the pit; sieves, trowels and identification guides will be handed out. Our leaders will also be on hand with bags to put any finds in along with a microscope hooked up to a tablet for closer inspection of the fossils. Most common finds on site are various shells and sharks’ teeth.
