Rocks and soils

Classes can come and discover the world of rocks, fossils and soils at Lesnes Abbey.

Age: Key Stage 1 (5-7) and Key Stage 2 (7-11)

Curriculum Links: working scientifically, rocks

Description: Half the day will involve the children getting stuck in with scientific experiments investigating different types of soils. They will also help with demonstrations on igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock formations before using microscopes to determine the identity of mystery rock samples.

The second half will be spent in our fossil pit which dates from the Eocene era. The children will become mini-palaeontologists as they learn where fossils come from and use their guides and equipment to discover the numerous sharks’ teeth and shells present.

Costs:  Full Day £7.70 per pupil (minimum charge £215)
